Potrella - "soil drainer for large ceramic pots"
No more broken crockery at the bottom of your big ceramic pots - that's the promise of Alcester inventor Ted Jones, who has come up with the perfect solution to allow water to drain away. Called Potrella, it's a small green plastic dome that can be placed over each drainage hole of a large ceramic pot before the pot is filled with compost. No other form of drainage is required.
At the end of the season, simply retrieve the dome, wash it, and re-use. They will then last you many years!
It's traditional to use broken bits of pottery to avoid waterlogged soil and subsequent damage to plants. This isn't always successful, and depends on a ready supply of broken pots. (ALWAYS WITH THE DANGER OF CUT FINGERS). Potrella has been extensively tested over the past two years, and it's highly successful. It's also reusable and made out of recycled plastic, so it's environmentally friendly too.
A Toolmaker/Plastic Moulder by trade, I am able to produce these items in bulk at my workshop on the Mill Industrial Park at King's Coughton in Alcester, Warwickshire. It's an excellent product and a real boon to gardeners - I'm a keen gardener myself, which is why I used my engineering/design skills to develop the Potrella. IT REALLY WORKS!
